AFTERCARE
Here’s how to care for your skin after a permanent makeup procedure:
-
Avoid Touching: Do not touch the treated area with dirty hands to prevent infection.
-
Keep It Dry: Avoid getting the treated area wet for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
-
No Scratching or Picking: Do not scratch or pick at scabs, as this can affect the healing process and result in scarring.
-
Use a Gentle Cleanser: Clean the treated area gently with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser.
-
Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your skin from direct sun exposure and avoid tanning beds.
-
Avoid Makeup: Do not apply makeup to the treated area until fully healed.
-
Moisturize: Apply the recommended ointment or healing balm to keep the area moisturized.
-
Avoid Sweating: Refrain from heavy exercise or activities that cause excessive sweating during the healing period.
-
Follow Aftercare Instructions: Always follow any specific aftercare advice provided by your technician.
Taking these precautions will help ensure proper healing and the best results from your permanent makeup procedure.
AFTERCARE AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Right after the procedure, some tenderness and tingling feeling will occur, as well as mild swelling for about 1-2 days. Whichever anesthetic or a numbing cream used before the procedure will begin to wear off and the uncovered wound will gradually begin the process of restoration and healing.
A pain reliever is recommended if the pain is too uncomfortable. For the next 2 weeks, physical activity, pools, saunas, or even larger exposure to sun can cause premature fading of the pigment administered. (All sorts of tattoos carry a characteristic risk of infection or allergic rection, so if extreme pain or tenderness persists for longer than 5 days, please, consult your doctor).
Following your visit, when your skin slowly heals you may experience mild itching. That is a good sign, as it is a natural progress where our bodies instinctively begin to adapt and heal appropriately. You can always use a cold compress or a damp CLEAN cloth to gently place either on the affected areas to reduce discomfort. Only do this for a day or so, as repeated attempts to cool down the shocked tissue could result in a possible skin damage or infection. Do not apply pressure, do not rub, scratch or exfoliate any new areas where the procedure was done.
HOW TO CLEAN
You will be provided with an ointment and verbal instruction which both will assist in proper cleaning during healing time for approximately 2 weeks. The key is to be gentle and try to clean it twice a day, morning and before going to sleep. Really try not to scrub or irritate the affected areas.
AFTER THE SCABBING IS COMPLETE
When the scabbing has fully come off, you can stop using the ointment. The normal amount of time to have the ointment used is 2 weeks after the visit. Considering that, you may slowly go back to your usual skin care routines, but try to avoid areas affected when using a scrub or an exfoliator. Make sure to add sunscreen to your daily routine, especially if your procedure involved eyebrows. If your moisturizer contains retinol, anti-aging, skin brightening properties, do not use them on the parts that permanent makeup was applied to.
SWELLING AND/OR BRUISING:
Any redness, skin sensitivity, or swelling, are normal effects, slightly uncomfortable, but definitely normal. That said, these should not extend past 1-2 days. It all depends on the ability of the individual’s age, skin type, and blood circulation. If the bruising/swelling persists past 3rd day, please be sure to contact your doctor.
APPEARANCE:
The freshly administered pigment will look darker and thicker than expected, where some may seem exceedingly bright, it also depends on skin tones and how sensitive your skin may be. The pigments will eventually settle in full results in the next 2-4 weeks.
AVERAGE HEALING TIME AND PROCESS:
Overall, the older looser skin will take a bit longer in comparison to younger skin. Healing time will truly depend on many factors; age, skin type, circulation, and even hormonal cycles. Sometimes your diet, physical activity, exposure to direct sunlight, and medications, can affect the speed of healing after the procedure.
TOUCH-UP PROCEDURE:
In about 2 weeks most of your permanent make up procedures will be mostly healed during the “shedding” or “scabbing” phase. The intensity and thickness will gradually fade and transform into the desired colour after the first 3 weeks. In about a month and a half to 2 months you should be scheduling for a “touch-up” (depending on the particular procedure you had). Joanna will be addressing all of the follow-ups with you individually once you are there in person.
